The Kowal and Klimek story

A Family Bakery Built on Tradition, Hard Work, and the American Dream

Ideal Bakery is more than a bakery. It is the story of a family, a dream, and a deep love for the breads, pastries, and traditions of Eastern Europe.

The Kowal family came to the United States from Poland in 1995, carrying with them the values that would shape everything they built: hard work, family, faith, craftsmanship, and pride in doing things the right way. Like many immigrants, the family came in search of opportunity. For their father, Kazimierz, that opportunity was the American Dream: to one day own a business, create something lasting, and build a better future for his children and generations to come.

That dream began taking shape in 2006, when he purchased the family’s first bakery with his daughter, Mariola. The bakery was named Signature Breads, and it became the foundation for everything that followed. What started as one bakery quickly grew into a lifelong family mission: to bring high-quality, traditional Eastern European baking to more families, more communities, and more tables across Illinois.

In 2008, the family opened Euro Homeland Deli in Romeoville with Mariola and her brother Chris. The deli expanded the family’s connection to the community and created a place where customers could experience the flavors, products, and hospitality rooted in their Polish and Eastern European heritage.

The family continued to grow its bakery legacy in 2015 with the purchase of Ideal Bakery. From there, the name became a central part of the family’s story and a symbol of their commitment to quality, tradition, and community. In 2018, the family added Chris’s Bakery, continuing to expand their reach while staying true to the hands-on, family-run approach that made each location special.

Ideal Bakery truly took off during the COVID years, when families stayed home and began exploring new types of breads, pastries, and baked goods. During that time, we saw something important: our bakery was reaching far beyond the Polish and Eastern European communities we had always served. People from all backgrounds were discovering the comfort, flavor, and craftsmanship of our baked goods.

That realization changed everything.

In May 2024, the Kowal and Klimek family purchased Jarosch Bakery, a beloved name with a long-standing reputation in the Chicagoland bakery community. Just a few months later, in August 2024, the family opened a state-of-the-art baking facility in Elk Grove Village, creating the space and capabilities needed to serve more customers while maintaining the quality and care that define their products.

The next chapter came in February 2026 with the purchase of Oak Mill Bakery and the opening of a new Jarosch retail store. Each step has been part of a larger vision: to build an amazing bakery company that honors the past, serves the present, and creates something meaningful for future generations.

Today, Ideal Bakery remains a true family business. It is run by the Kowal children, spouses, in-laws, and extended family, all working together with the same passion and dedication that started the journey. Every loaf of bread, every pastry, every cake, and every tray of cookies reflects the family’s commitment to quality, tradition, and hospitality.

At Ideal Bakery, our mission is to bring the masses a true Eastern European bakery experience. We proudly offer high-quality breads, pastries, cookies, pączki, kołaczki, cakes, and many more bakery favorites made with care, tradition, and pride.

Today, Ideal Bakery is expanding far and wide with the hope of becoming a nationally recognized bakery brand. But no matter how much we grow, we remain rooted in the same values that started it all: family, tradition, quality, and the American Dream.

From our family to yours, we are honored to share the flavors of our heritage and continue building a bakery for generations to come.
